Shooting Sossusvlei

Access

The park gate at Sesriem opens at sunrise; closes at sunset. For golden-hour and pre-dawn shoots we secure overnight permits inside the park through Namibia Wildlife Resorts — booked months ahead, not on demand.

Locations

Big Daddy and Big Mama dunes (the iconic 380m crescents), Deadvlei (the white pan with 900-year-old camel-thorn trees), Hidden Vlei, Dune 45, the Sesriem Canyon, and the wider NamibRand reserve to the south.

Logistics

4×4 fleet from Walvis Bay or Windhoek (5–6 hour drive in). Lodge accommodation at Sossus Dune Lodge (in-park, pre-dawn access), Little Kulala, or Wolwedans for the NamibRand side. Catering and crew supply trucked from Windhoek.

Windows

Year-round shootable. Best dune contrast and skies April–October (cool, dry). November–March brings cumulus over the dunes — painterly, but requires weather contingencies.

Permits
